British R&B star Craig David has opened up about his experience working with Nigerian Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage on their new song ‘Commitment’—and he has nothing but praise for her.
In a recent interview on the Capital Xtra podcast, the ‘7 Days’ hitmaker, 43, described Tiwa Savage, 45, as a “consistent and talented force” who has significantly contributed to Afrobeats.
How Tiwa Savage Joined ‘Commitment’
Craig David revealed that when the song was about 70% complete, his team was discussing who to feature, and everyone unanimously suggested Tiwa Savage.
“We were all in the studio, brainstorming, and someone said, ‘What about Tiwa Savage?’ I was like, ‘What about Tiwa? That is a great idea!’”
Despite not knowing whether she would be interested, they reached out—and Tiwa’s response was more than they had hoped for.
“She said, ‘Even if the song was not that great, I still would have jumped on it.’ That’s when I knew this was love.”
Craig described the collaboration as a perfect blend of their worlds, adding that Tiwa’s ad-libs took the track to another level.
A Longtime Tiwa Savage Fan
Craig David didn’t hold back in celebrating Tiwa Savage’s impact on Afrobeats, calling her an artist with both longevity and outstanding vocal ability.
“I have been a big fan of Tiwa for years. When it comes to Afrobeats, she has been holding it down for so long. She is not just consistent; she is also an amazing vocalist.”
When they finally met in person, the R&B star said it was “everything I could’ve imagined and more.”
“She is so gracious, and her talent is just insane. She is like, ‘Yeah, it’s good stuff,’ and I’m like, ‘No, you’re the good stuff!’”
With ‘Commitment’ bringing together Craig David’s signature smooth R&B style and Tiwa Savage’s Afrobeats magic, fans can expect a track that showcases the best of both worlds. 🎶🔥
