Court remands teenager for raping a seven-year-old girl in Ekiti State

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti, has ordered a 16-year-old boy, Lucky Mohammed to be remanded in the custody of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Ado Ekiti.

Lucky was reasonably suspected to have defiled a 7-year-old girl at Oke-Oniyo area of Iworoko-Ekiti, sometime in February, 2022.

In her statement, recorded by the Police on 18/2/2022, the victim said she was outside their house playing with his brother, and that at some point, she slept off.

She revealed that when she woke up, she met herself on Lucky’s bed with her pant removed,

She also saw her laps wet with semen and that her private part was seriously paining her.

She said Lucky begged her warned her not to tell anybody but she later told her mother when she came back, adding that this was the second time the defendant would molest her sexually.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata had requested for the order of Court to remand the defendant in the Juvenile Home at Bamigboye, Ado Ekiti, pending legal advice from office of Director of Public Prosecutions, adding that the offence runs contrary to and is punishable under Section 31(2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

In her ruling, Magistrate Kehinde Awosika ordered that the defendant be kept in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Ado Ekiti.

He ordered that hearing notice be issued and served on the Ekiti State Ministry of Women affairs and Sexual Assault Referral Center, Ado-Ekiti.

The case was adjourned till 9th March, 2022, for mention.
