Chelsea takeover could be held up amid suspicions that Abramovich will receive part of the profits

Roman Abramovich’s intention to sell Chelsea is proving to be complicated. After the delay in finding an offer that convinced all parties involved, there are now the last-minute frictions, which in this case, can be counted in billions of euros.

The winning bid, which is currently pending approval by the British government, is that of American tycoon Todd Boehly, who offered 4.25 billion pounds to take over the Blues. Abramovich had put the club up for sale due to the sanctions imposed on him following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

As revealed by the BBC, the UK government have “serious concerns” about Abramovich’s plans as the Russian oligarch has yet to agree “to a sales structure that gives ministers confidence that the proceeds will go to charity.”

The sale, which must be completed before May 31 is now also compromised by a possible incursion into the deal by a company linked to Abramovich and which is believed to be contributing around two billion euros.
