A few days ago, Eddy Reynoso,Canelo‘s trainer, said that they had the intention of fighting at the Coloso, but that nothing was clear at the moment.

Canelo‘s manager and trainer, as well as the super middleweight world champion, want to be back in Mexico. In 2020 and 2021, there was a possibility of fighting in his native Guadalajara, but the Covid-19 pandemic kept them away from there, so a fight in Mexico is a pending issue for the Canelo Team.

“Canelo has expressed his desire to fight in Mexico on several occasions. If he returns after many years of not having fought in his country, the Azteca Stadium is the iconic stage. It is a possibility (against GGG), I think it would be a full house,” Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council.

Canelo Alvarez’s possible opponents to fight in Mexico

Canelo will announce his next opponents in the next few days. According to reports, the Mexican plans to fight on May 7 and Sept. 17. The opponents would be the Russian Dmity Bilov in semi-complete weight and then, in super middleweight, against Gennady Golovkin.

The two fights are scheduled to take place in the United States, although the venues are yet to be defined and the contracts have yet to be signed. However, the WBC president does not rule out the Azteca Stadium as a possible venue for either of the two fights.

The fight with (Dmitry) Bivol is scheduled for May, and then a third fight against Golovkin.
