A bus driver, on Wednesday, rammed into a yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist in Isabo, Ojodu Abiodun in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing him on the spot.
We gathered that no fewer than four others, including two passengers and two motorcyclists, sustained various injuries in the crash.
According to an eyewitness who did not want to be mentioned in the media out of fear of retaliation, the deceased victim was en route to Alagbole from Berger when the vehicle rammed into him.
The source said the motorcyclist was thrown on the roof of a nearby store by the impact of the collision.
By the time our correspondent arrived at the scene, policemen from the Adigboluja Police Divisional Headquarters were on the scene to prevent the breakdown of the law.
One of the motorcyclists who prevented the bus driver from escaping said, “The bus did not stop until he hit the speed breaker on the road. One of the boys kept going and swung around to prevent the driver from fleeing. I was facing the man who died in the collision. All of us were going to Berger. In front of me was a tricycle. Three motorcycles were hit by the bus. The motorcyclist that died was riding alone. On reaching the junction, what I heard was a loud crash.
“Then the two motorcyclists that were going to Berger were hit from behind. The passengers they were carrying sustained different wounds. When the bus rammed into the motorcycle, it tossed the rider over the roof of a nearby shop. It took the efforts of passersby to bring his body down from the roof. Blood was gushing out of his head. The other passengers were seriously wounded. They were quickly rushed to the hospital. A lot of people could have died. Some people who got close to the driver said he was drunk.”
The Wednesday accident caused major gridlock as commercial drivers were finding alternative routes.
When contacted on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, said she would respond once her investigation was complete.
