Bologna stun Inter as Scudetto pendulum swings again

Ivan Perisic put Inter ahead early in the game, but Marko Arnautovic and Nicola Sansone scored one each to turn the game around and lead Bologna to a hard-fought 2-1 victory on home soil to dent the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title hopes.

Inter hit the ground running and opened the scoring just three minutes in through Perisic. The Croatia international skipped past a few Bologna defenders and unleashed a strike from the edge of the box to give his team the lead.

Bologna pushed for an equaliser and managed to level the scores through Arnautovic, who headed home following a precise Musa Barrow cross just before the half an hour.

The visitors came close to scoring a second in the 33rd minute when Denzel Dumfries failed to hit the target and sent his header just wide.

Inter dominated the ball in the second 45 minutes and produced as many as 14 shots, but they struggled to create quality chances. Bologna, on the other hand, converted their only shot on target into a goal.

Simone Inzaghi didn’t want to risk by playing the injured Samir Handanovic in goal and started his first-choice goalkeeper on the bench. His replacement, Stefan Radu, made a horrible mistake with eight minutes to go, with Sansone benefitting from the error to complete Bologna’s comeback.

After losing away at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, Inter are still second in the Serie A table, two points behind leaders AC Milan. Meanwhile, Bologna are sitting 13th with 42 points.
