Tina Knowles, the mother of Beyonce, has filed for divorce from Richard Lawson, the US actor, after eight years of marriage.
According to TMZ, Tina filed for divorce in Los Angeles superior court on Wednesday on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences”.
The pair were married on April 12, 2015, according to the documents. They had dated for two years before getting married.
In the filing, Tina asked that neither she nor her husband be entitled to spousal support following the divorce.
She requested that she is entitled to keep all property and belongings that are hers — purchased either before or during the marriage.
Additionally, Tina requested her name be restored to Celestine Knowles upon the finalisation of the divorce.
In a 2022 interview, Tina lavished Richard with praise, saying she felt it was a gift from God when they met.
“I have known Richard for 40 years and when we reconnected, it felt like a gift from God,” she had said.
“I really mean that because I prayed. After I went through a divorce, it was pretty devastating after 33 years and I always planned on getting married again, if it was God’s plan. I like being married, I like being in a relationship.”
Tina has two kids — Beyonce and Solange — with Matthew Knowles, her first husband.
According to People, Tina spilt from Matthew in 2009, after 30 years of marriage. She finalized the divorce in 2011.
Richard was also married before his relationship with Tina. He and Denise Gordy were married from 1978 to 1989. The pair share daughter Bianca Lawson.
