Barcelona has slammed the Spanish Football Federation’s decision to hand Kylian Mbappe just a one-match ban for his reckless red card tackle on Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco, calling the ruling a “disgrace.”
During Real Madrid’s 1-0 win last weekend, Mbappe received a straight red for a challenge many deemed dangerous enough to warrant a multi-game suspension. But the RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee ruled otherwise, suspending him for just one La Liga game Madrid’s upcoming clash with Athletic Club.
Crucially, this decision means Mbappe remains eligible for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, a development that hasn’t gone down well with the Catalan giants.
Barça vice-president Rafa Yuste didn’t hold back:
“The tackle and the sanction is absolutely absurd. It was chilling and could have injured the opponent. It’s a disgrace.”
The tension between Spain’s two football powerhouses is already boiling. Barça have already beaten Madrid twice this season, but they’ll meet two more times in the Copa del Rey final and a crucial league showdown. With Mbappe now cleared to play in both, the rivalry has gained another explosive twist.
TL;DR: Mbappe escapes with a one-game ban, Barça fumes, and El Clásico just got a whole lot spicier.
