Wrexham winger James McClean has been backed to hold his own — and even do damage in the boxing ring, especially if he ever faces YouTube star-turned-boxer KSI.
The 35-year-old Republic of Ireland veteran has long been known for his love of boxing, and his former international teammate Shane Long believes McClean could thrive in the influencer boxing scene. Speaking to BoyleSports, Long described McClean as an “angry little terrier” with the fitness and fire to surprise anyone even a seasoned influencer fighter like KSI.
“Could James McClean be a success in influencer boxing? You never know,” Long said. “He’s got an engine on him, so he’s got the fitness for boxing. He’s always in great shape. I’ve never seen him throw a punch, but he’s got the personality to entertain the crowd.”
When asked whether McClean could beat KSI, Long added: “I’d back McClean against anyone. He’s an angry little terrier, so he could do a bit of damage to anyone.”
While boxing might just be a side passion, McClean has serious business on the pitch. He’s currently focused on helping Wrexham make more history as the club pushes for a third successive promotion this time from League One. Wrexham sit second in the table and are eyeing an automatic promotion spot that would take them to the Championship.
Next up, the Welsh club hosts Bristol Rovers on Easter Friday, hoping to keep their incredible run alive and take another step toward rewriting the record books.
