Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has hit back at club legend Wayne Rooney after the former striker questioned his ambition of winning the Premier League, branding the remarks as “naive.”
🔹 Amorim’s Response to Rooney’s Criticism
Following United’s FA Cup exit to Fulham, Rooney, now a BBC pundit, suggested that Amorim’s vision of making United title contenders was unrealistic given the club’s struggles.
In response, Amorim defended his long-term goal, saying:
👉 “Being naive is to think we are going to do it this season or be the best contender next season.
👉 I know that in this moment, everybody thinks they know everything. I was a pundit when I finished my career—I know it’s really easy.”
🔹 United’s Mission Remains the Same
Despite the criticism, Amorim remains firm on his goal of restoring United’s former glory:
🔸 “Our goal is to win the Premier League. Maybe it is not with me. But as a club, as a board, the goal is to win the Premier League like we did in the past with all the great legends of this club.”
🔹 FA Cup Exit Piles Pressure on United
United crashed out of the FA Cup after a 1-1 draw with Fulham, losing on penalties.
- Calvin Bassey opened the scoring for Fulham before Bruno Fernandes equalized.
- In the shootout, Bernd Leno saved crucial penalties from Victor Lindelöf and Joshua Zirkzee, sealing Fulham’s place in the next round.
🔹 Europa League Is Now a Must-Win
With their domestic cup hopes gone, United’s only chance of salvaging their season is through the Europa League.
🔜 They face Real Sociedad in Spain for their last-16 first leg on Thursday.
🔴 Do you think Amorim’s vision for United is realistic, or is Rooney right? 🤔🔥
