Senator Abdullahi Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa state will emerge tomorrow at the national convention of the All Progressives Congress as its new chairman.
He is President Buhari’s candidate and has now indubitably been adopted as the consensus candidate for the position.
And today’s convention is a mere coronation for the 75 year-old politician.
He will be the third substantive National Chairman of the party, after Adams Oshiomhole and John Odigie-Oyegun.
Confirming this was Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, when he spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
Consensus is one of the requirements. it is provided in our Constitution and it is not against the Electoral Act, ” Sule said while defending the move.
Sule who had backed another contender for the post, Senator Umaru Al-Makura, also a former governor of Nasarawa, appeared now to have dumped his candidate and bowed to party supremacy.
His support for Adamu comes a day after Senate President Ahmed Lawan announced that the APC had agreed to produce consensus candidates.
He also said the party will put out a ‘Unity List’ by Friday – a development that Sule confirmed to have already been done.
