Former Special Duties Minister Kabiru Turaki has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to block the use of a DNA test result in an ongoing legal battle over the paternity of a child.
Turaki filed a motion seeking to restrain the police and a woman, Hadiza Baffa, from using a DNA test result from November 5, 2024, in any legal proceedings.
The Case at a Glance:
🔹 Hadiza Baffa claims Turaki is the father of her child and has provided a DNA test result allegedly proving paternity.
🔹 Turaki argues that the test was conducted without his consent, violating his fundamental rights.
🔹 He says he was detained for six hours and later forced to provide a swab sample for the test.
🔹 Hadiza insists the test result confirms 99.9% paternity and that Turaki is trying to block it from being used in court.
🔹 The police have also opposed Turaki’s request, urging the court to dismiss his application.
Next Steps
Justice Inyang Ekwo has adjourned the case to March 24 for a hearing, where both sides will present their arguments.
This legal battle is set to be a major test of DNA evidence in Nigerian courts and could have wider implications for paternity disputes.
