Antwerp’s Director of Football, Marc Overmars, suffered a mild stroke on December 29, 2022. The Belgian club said that the former Ajax, Arsenal, and Barcelona winger has been in good health after being taken to the hospital.
Overmars was appointed as Ajax‘s director of football in 2012 but departed last year due to inappropriate messages sent to female colleagues.
“Marc Overmars, Antwerp‘s Director of Football Affairs, became unwell last night and was admitted to hospital with a mild stroke,” Antwerp posted on social media last month.
“Marc is doing well in the meantime, but will have to take it easy for a while.”
Marc Overmars suffered irreparable damage
According to De Telegraaf, Overmars‘ condition is more serious than initially reported after suffering a mild stroke in December.
The former Barcelona man has suffered “irreparable” damage to his heart, which “can only pump blood at 30 percent of its normal volume”.
The Dutch press reports that Overmars has been discharged from hospital and is now resting at home.
Meanwhile, The Mirror stressed that Overmars will need at least a year to recover and will require medication for the rest of his life.
