GCTU named Ghana’s 9th best varsity in excellence ranking

The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has been ranked the 9th best varsity in the country based on excellence.

Emmanuel Ohone-Afoakwa, the institution’s vice-chancellor, announced the feat in a statement on Wednesday.

The list, which examined 89 universities in Ghana, was recently released by the Ranking Web of Universities Webometrics.

The development comes two years after the institution became a public university.

Commenting on the ranking, Ohone-Afoakwa said the institution will build on its achievement this year in 2023.

The vice-chancellor added that the management of the university will keep working hard to improve the ranking.

GCTU was established in November 2005. However, the institution was granted accreditation by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) on March 30, 2006, and officially inaugurated on August 15, 2006.

It thereafter gained full public university status on August 13, 2020.

The institution offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering among others.

Other courses offered at the institution include Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mobile Computing, Information Technology, and Information Systems, Business Administration.

They also include Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Economics as well as Oil and Gas.

Bob Hinson, the Ghanaian scholar, is a pro-vice-chancellor at the institution.
