Tottenham has completed a deal with Udinese to sign their promising young left wing-back Destiny Udogie, Gidipoint.com reports.
“We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Destiny Udogie from Udinese. The defender has agreed a deal that will run until 2027 and will return to the Serie A side on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.” A tweet on Tottenham Hotspur official Twitter handle reads.
The deal is believed to be in the region of £20million. Spurs will pay an initial £15m and there are also some performance-related bonuses on top.
The Nigerian-born Italy U21 will stay on loan at Udinese for the season, with Spurs having Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as their left wing-backs for this term.
Destiny Udogie will return to Udinese on loan until June 2023, as expected. “It’s a dream for me to join a top club like Tottenham. It was an easy choice as they’ve Antonio Conte, really top manager.” He said after his unveiling on Tuesday evening.
“I think the Premier League is the biggest league in the world, the most difficult and I like challenges. I’m excited to start and, for me, to play for a big team like Tottenham is a big dream come true.” He added.
Manchester City and Brighton had also been tracking Udogie.
Udogie, in his own words, can “can attack and defend” and likes to dribble. He is also being handed an additional season in Italy and could learn a lot there under manager Andrea Sottil.
Udogie made 35 Serie A appearances, scoring five goals, while on loan at Udinese from Hellas Verona last season.
