Nicki Minaj's husband sentenced for not registering as sex offender

Kenneth Petty, Nicki Minaj’s husband, will serve time for failing to register as a sex offender in California, much to the dismay of the federal government. He will serve that time in the mansion where he and Nicki reside.

The 44-year-old was given a one-year home detention term, three years of probation, and a $55,000 fine by a federal judge on Wednesday. In September 2021, Petty pleaded guilty.

Prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney’s Office reportedly contended that home detention wouldn’t constitute punishment because Nicki and Kenneth reside in a lavish multi-bedroom mansion in a gated Calabasas neighborhood.

Kenneth Petty’s sentence and record

They had suggested that Petty receive a stiff sentence of 15 months in jail and 5 years of probation, but the judge was against that recommendation.

Petty spent more than 4 years in prison after being found guilty of a rape in 1994 in New York City. He didn’t register on the sex offenders list when he moved to California with Nicki, which is how the federal authorities caught him.

An in-depth Daily Beast report from back in March shed light on an assault case that dates all the way back to 1994. An alleged victim of sexual assault named Jennifer Hough describes in the report how Nicki Minaj, Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, and estranged family members are said to have uprooted her life.

The report specifically describes the allegations from 1994 and the adverse reactions she experienced after coming forward and disclosing her version of the event. She chose to live a life of secrecy and privacy due to harassment, intimidation, and other factors.
