The England international scored the one and only goal of the game with a free-kick, before being taken off in the 48th minute.

“Trippier underwent an X-ray immediately after the game and scans have shown a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot,” said Newcastle in a press statement.

“Everyone at the club wishes Kieran a speedy recovery.”

How important has Trippier been to Newcastle?
Trippier has had a huge impact on Eddie Howe’s side since joining the club in January. He’s scored in Newcastle’s last two matches, as the Magpies won their third consecutive Premier League game at the weekend to push themselves to safety.

Prior to Sunday, the last time Newcastle won three league games in a row was in 2018 under Rafa Benitez. Newcastle fans have loved the intensity Trippier brings, as he’s undoubtedly pushed his teammates forward which has given them a major confidence boost.

When will Trippier return?
Should Trippier require surgery on his foot, he may miss multiple games to the frustration of Howe. Trippier will not play for the rest of February, meaning he will at least miss Newcastle’s matches against West Ham United and Brentford.
