Paris Saint-Germain are to host Manchester City at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, September 28 in what is the most expensive football match in the world.
Both sides are renowned for having vast wealth as well as two starting elevens that boast plenty of firepower.
According to Transfermarkt data, Manchester City‘s squad is worth 1 billion euros, 1.005 billion to be exact, while PSG‘s falls short at 997.25 million euros.
If both sides put their worth together, they exceed a total of 2 billion euros, so to say this is the most expensive football game in the world might even be considered an understatement.
Most expensive signing of the summer
As they look to win the first Champions League trophy in their respective histories, both teams have invested a lot this summer in new talent.
It is, however, Manchester City that have in their possession the most expensive signing of the summer, Jack Grealish.
The 25-year-old cost the English side a fee of 117.5 million euros from Aston Villa, and signed a six-year deal.
PSG’s summer transfer window has been nothing short of exceptional, with names like Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum all joining the French club, not to mention six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.
The 340-million-euro attack
With both sides’ attacking prowess valued by Transfermarkt, it is PSG‘s striking trio that comes out on top, at a whopping 340 million euros.
The Parisian side’s attack consists of Kylian Mbappe valued at 160m euros, Neymar at 100m and Messi at 80m.
Manchester City’s frontline, on the other hand, have a combined value of 270 million with Kevin de Bruyne at 100m, Raheem Sterling at 90m and Phil Foden at 80m.
The ‘Messi’ factor
One thing that is not certain yet is what role Messi will play.
PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino assures that he is recovering well but that nobody at the club knows yet whether or not he will play.
Messi has a huge history with opposition coach Pep Guardiola, as the Argentine played under him at Barcelona from 2008-2012 in one of the greatest football teams in history.
Since then, Messi has played against Guardiola’s Bayern Munich and Manchester City several times and he has been successful almost every time.
Whether he plays or not, this game will attract eyes from all over the world.
