Simone Biles has not resigned herself to leaving the Tokyo Olympics without competing again after her withdrawal from the gymnastics team final.
The 24-year-old American gymnast has decided to take part in the last apparatus final, the balance beam, which takes place on Tuesday, August 2.
Biles withdrew from the all-around and the other three apparatus finals for which she had qualified – uneven bars, vault and floor.
For the past few days she has been training in a gymnasium outside the Olympic venues to try to regain the spatial sensations and coordination she suddenly lost in the team final, where she withdrew after going through the vault, citing a need to focus on her mental health.
